MEMBERSHIP

CODESRIA is an institution servicing a worldwide community of scholars. The Council’s Charter provides for five types of membership: Individual, Associate Individual, Institutional, Associate Institutional, and Honorary membership.

Individual Members

Individual membership is open to all African social science and humanities researchers in the following categories:

  1. a member or fellow of a Social Science or Humanities Faculty or department of a university
  2. a member of an independent research centre, unit or network
  3. a member of a professional association or not-for-profit organisation
  4. any other researcher, writer, or public intellectual with a record of continued engagement in intellectual production or activity
  5. a student undertaking postgraduate studies.

By submitting an application, applicants consent to abide by CODESRIA statutes and to the payment of a USD 50 annual membership fee.

Institutional Members

Institutional membership is open to all African social science and humanities faculties, institutes and centres in the following categories:

  1. a university, research centre or unit within or outside a university
  2. a discipline-based professional association or network
  3. a national research body,
  4. a not-for-profit organisation.

An institutional member shall be represented by a designated member of the institution in respect of matters relating to CODESRIA. Any member of an organisation who is not designated as a representative may not participate in any decision-making process of CODESRIA as a representative of that institution.

Associate Institutional Members

Associate institutional membership is open to all non-African social science and humanities faculties, institutes and centres.

Honorary Members

CODESRIA may from time to time confer honorary membership on individuals in recognition of their contribution to African social sciences and humanities as well as the objectives of CODESRIA

Additional

In addition to being informed about all CODESRIA activities, members receive the CODESRIA Bulletin, the Council’s Annual Report, and a 30% discount on all publications issued by the Council. Effective 2022, all paid-up individual members will be entitled to receive a free copy of two CODESRIA books of their choice.
